Acetaminophen (Pain Killer) pills recalled, Check if yours on list at FDA web site.
The contaminated pills included metal fragments ranging in size from "microdots" to portions of wire one-third of an inch long, the Food and Drug Administration said. Perrigo discovered the metal bits during quality-control checks after realizing the equipment it uses to make pills was wearing down prematurely, the FDA said.
The FDA posted on its Web site the recalled batch numbers and the dozens of chains supplied by Perrigo, which bills itself as the world's largest manufacturer of store-brand nonprescription drugs. The 129 retailers that could potentially be affected by the recall include Wal-Mart Stores Inc., CVS Corp., Safeway Stores and SuperValu Inc. They typically sell the Perrigo-made pills under private labels.
Customers can check whether products they bought are being recalled by checking the store list on the FDA Web site and the batch list.

China is hiding H5N1 bird-flu virus information
China's lack of openness about its handling of bird-flu cases makes it difficult for experts to determine if the dangerous H5N1 virus is mutating and spreading, a World Health Organization official told Agence France Presse Friday.
"The situation in China is quite confusing and there is some conflicting information," said Julie Hall, the WHO's coordinator of epidemic alert and response in China.
"We really don't know how many strains of bird flu there are in China because we have limited amounts of information shared with us by the Ministry of Agriculture and the virus samples we have asked for have not been shared," Hall told AFP.
She made her remarks after Chinese officials discounted claims by U.S. and Hong Kong scientists that a new strain of bird flu -- called the "Fujian-like" strain -- had appeared in southern China.
China's Ministry of Agriculture said the strain of bird flu that's emerged in southern China is consistent with earlier strains, AFP reported.
Expert worry that the H5N1 bird-flu virus could mutate into a form that's easily transmitted between humans and spark a global pandemic.

charlottewyatt, blogger, british (bloody) court, bad ugly hospitals and doctors and one sweet angels life.
It is hard for me to stop tears, after reading about Charlotte Wyatt. Tiny little girl that you want touch and make her live, so that she can smile, blink her eyes at her parents or any one near.
As always the doctors who swear to save life, have decided to end her life because, what ever the reasons the doctors have (what ever they are, nothing worth taking a life) trying to be become god.
I don't know the reasons for taking the charlottewyatt.blogspot.com site out. Again Judge, I hope when Jesus asks you or judge you, you will be able to face the lord.
I pray for Charlotte, sweet angel, may you surprise those bad ugly doctors and live long. I don't know the reasons for taking the site down, but I will post this because, it has hurt me so much to read about Charlotte's story. Where ever the new site/s going to be, I will follow and continue to publish.
The new site is http://savecharlotte.com/
The article I am writing about is on this page.

Another E.coli related recall
The type of E. coli in the water used on the recalled lettuce is found in the feces of every warm-blooded animal, said Dean Cliver, a food safety professor at UC Davis. "It typically does no harm but is used as an indicator of fecal contamination," Cliver said. "Unless it was present in unusually high levels, it probably did not indicate a threat to consumer health."
The search continued for the remaining cartons distributed under the Foxy brand. The company said they might be in supermarkets or restaurants in Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

How to stay healthy, 37950 pushups and situps in 275 days!
So to catch up with his posts I had to spend a while at his site. I also noticed an article titled, Slow and Steady wins the race! I thought to myself, what? I don't want a slow grid! Let's see what he is up to. First I thought it is MS Excel ;). (Dan works on getting .NET on the grid or vice versa).
Anyway the article gave me two ideas that I have already put into action. Fear of starting is one of the main reasons we make resolutions, like new year resolutions that we forget by January 15Th, which in turn was planned since previous September. Dan's advise is that day is today.
As his first advise is that new year starts today! How funny, I have been trying to give up smoking but I never really tried, Someday! that was my thought. But after reading his simple procedure for keeping up resolutions, I said to myself that some day is today! Well wait on this for a while as I explain his methodology, actually his brothers methodology, according to Dan.
Here is an excerpt from his posting;
"Well, this year that changed. I finally found a resolution worth doing. Not for the first time in my life, I'm going to copy my older brother.
and a Last year, my brother Dave had a great resolution: on January 1 he did a push up sit up. On the 2Nd, he did two push ups and two sit ups. And so on. By April, he was doing 100 of each per day. By July, 200 per day. And, of course, on December 31st, he did 365 push ups and 365 sit ups. And during the course of the year, his physique changed drastically. In September, when he turned 40, his wife gave a toast at his birthday dinner and said that he looked better then than he had in their entire relationship.
So I decided to do it this year. It's a fun resolution because it starts so easy (it felt almost silly when I got down on the floor and did one push up; but I did it, and I was on my way). Even now, 31 days in, it's a very brief "workout," but it's starting to feel like an honest set of push ups (and crunches)."
As of today he is on 275 pushups today: 37950 total!
So I joined his club from two ends (I did not ask his permission, just invited myself). I will do what he does for exercise and I have added one more. I will give up smoking breaks to mach my exercise. Like One push up and sit up + give up one smoking break. The formula is;
"The sheer numbers involved get staggering. Over the course of the year, I'll do 66,795 push ups (you can figure this out in Excel, or you can use the fun method: 1 + 2 + ... + n = (n + 1) * (n / 2)). I know I'll be breaking them into sets eventually, but for now it's fun to see how long I'll be able to do them in one set."
Now I am on my 15Th of both. I am amazed at how easy it is.
Thanks Dan, this is the best healthy advise I have ever got from a tech guy! Happy New Year Dan!

"I already feel quite comfortable. I'm hoping [the room] will give me the edge," she says.
What is this room she is talking about? Where is it?

AIST Develops 'Intelligent' Electronic Wheelchair
JCNnetwork reports that National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), in collaboration with the National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities, has developed an electronic wheelchair with a 360-degree camera that leaves no blind spots.
The 'intelligent' wheelchair prevents collision and bumps by gathering 3D information on the surrounding area in real time. It also detects irregular gestures and posture of the person on the wheelchair, stopping promptly and sending out an external emergency message when it senses something unusual.
After digging around for more info and photos, I found that PINK Tentacle, also has an article and through his article I landed on the AIST site. The site has more information together with some videos of the chair in operation. If you know Japanese, go to AIST site or if your Japanese is not that good! you can go to this google translated site.

Air travel spreads Flu, research concludes.
John Brownstein of the Children's Hospital Informatics Program at the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program, who led the study said for the first time researchers have been able to show, using real data, that air travel spreads the flu, suggesting that reducing the number of air passengers could possibly thwart a flu pandemic.

Hunger Craving bothering you? Get more protein, British researchers says!
Hunger craving
snippet by PAUL TAYLOR
Many people fail to stick with a weight-loss diet partly because they constantly feel hungry. But a new study suggests eating more protein can actually help dampen the desire to eat.
British researchers found that eating a high-protein meal boosts production of a gut hormone known as PYY that leads to feelings of satiation, according to the study published in Cell Metabolism.
In some respects, the study may partly explain why the Atkins diet helped some people lose weight. But the researchers are quick to point out that their proposed diet is very different from one advanced by Robert Atkins.
"The Atkins diet is primarily a low-carbohydrate diet. As a consequence of reducing carbs, it also tends to have increased protein and increased fat," including potentially harmful saturated fat, said lead researcher Rachel Batterham of University College London.
"The diet we are suggesting would be low-fat, increased protein and still have plenty of carbs," she said in an e-mail interview.
She noted the typical "Western" diet derives 49 per cent of its energy from carbs, 35 per cent from fat and 16 per cent from protein.
"We need to do trials to look at the optimum amount of protein needed, but this may be as little as 20 per cent."
She also pointed out that meat isn't the only source of beneficial protein. "Any type of protein" will trigger the release of the appetite-dampening hormone YYP, she said. "Protein from soy, whey, tofu, nuts is just as effective [as meat]."
But even with more protein, dieters can't escape a law of nutrition. "In order to lose weight, people need to reduce their calorie intake and [or] increase their exercise."

Fountains in San Jose, CA lost to cryptosporidium parasite.
A day after San Jose announced the closure of the popular downtown water feature because the city cannot assure its safety, it became clear that dozens of fountains in at least four counties are also falling through the regulatory cracks. And officials promised to move swiftly to close the gap -- although it is not clear what they need to do or how long it will take.
If you like bay area fountains or if you have kids who wants to play in those public fountains (who does not?) read the full article here.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist Dr. Michael Beach compared the water in the fountain to communal bathing water. He said the fountains are just like swimming pools.
``We've got a number of Cryptosporidium outbreaks going on across the country,'' he said.
In Alameda County, supervising environmental-health specialist Cynthia Bartus Jepsen said the latest outbreak will cause her agency, which has no records of fountains, to be far more proactive.
``Sometimes these parks install fountains and because there's no requirement for them to have a permit, we don't know about it,'' she said.

Enjoy. The RSS feeds might change as I will scour Internet for the best health and medical news. It will all be here.
